LAF urges citizens, politicians to practice utmost restraint

The Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) reopened blocked roads between Beirut and the South and set up check points in Tripoli on Monday.

This as LAF Commander Jean Kahwaji is inspecting the joint military patrols throughout Beirut to oversee the implementation of the security plan.

Earlier, the LAF urged all political factions to resort to calm rhetoric and be cautious in public statements, adding that it will take “decisive measures” in areas of high sectarian tension.

The LAF confirmed that it will hold on to its role in implementing national security, calling on all citizens regardless of sectarian affiliation to uphold utmost restraint and national accountability during these times. It also urged citizens to leave the streets and open blocked roads.

“Security is a red line, and so is the targeting of public and private institutions,” the military institution said in a statement, adding that it has proceeded contacts with all concerned authorities to place a firm grip on the deteriorating situation overtaking the country.

“The LAF calls on all political figures to practice calm rhetoric and halt all attempts at instigating strife,” it added.

In this context, it was reported that the LAF arrested 3 gunmen involved in Beirut's incidents.
