Saudi Arabia wants Lebanese gvt to resign, yet fears political void

Former PM Saad Hariri met with Future bloc leader Fouad Siniora in Jeddah in the presence of a delegation from the Future Movement. The delegation which included MP Nohad el-Mahcnouk, former MP Ghattas Koury, former minister Mohammad Chatah and Nader Hariri, the director of Saad Hariri’s office, returned to Beirut on Thursday.

During the meeting, Hariri called on March 14 to continue the fight until the toppling of the government.

Following the meeting, the Future Movement requested the circulation of the following points on March 14 leaders:

First, Saudi Arabia is keen on forming a new neutral cabinet, even if the Saudi officials expressed their concern regarding a political void.

Second, Lebanese President Michel Sleiman was  informed of these discussions and his position was described as responsible and understanding.
Third, Prime Minister Najib Mikati will be informed of these decisions when he meets with a top Saudi official, stressing that an official Saudi statement in this case will not be made.

Fourth, the action of the opposition will be divided into three fronts:

1- Stressing the opposition's position to topple the government, holding a meeting for March 14 leaders and issuing a statement including the alliance's clear stance and plan of action.

2- Explaining the opposition's position to the concerned diplomatic parties.

3- Activating sit-in in Beirut and Tripoli and studying the potential steps.
