Aoun: The Lebanese have all conceded on the unfairness of the 1960's electoral law

Change and Reform bloc leader MP Michel Aoun said on Wednesday that the Lebanese have all conceded on the unfairness of the 1960's electoral law since it does not ensure fair representation, noting that the Christians are the ones harmed by this law, first and foremost.             

During a press conference held following the bloc’s weekly meeting, Aoun pointed that he understands the Future bloc's wrongdoing on the bloc's part, but the stances of the LF and the Kataeb cannot be understood, adding that the boycott of the part of March 14 forces comes in line with hindering the formation of a new electoral law.                 

“It is too soon to unveil our moves prepared to confront the 60s law,” Aoun affirmed, adding that Patriarch Rai’s position was clear and based on principles. Aoun said that they will not allow anyone to convince the Patriarch to agree on the adoption of this law.               

On the other hand, Aoun said that the influx of the Syrian refugees into Lebanon is considered as a grade-A crisis.              

He noted that the US ambassador’s visit to Zahle may be considered as an intervention in the upcoming parliamentary elections, expressing reservations on foreign intervention in local affairs.           

In this context, Aoun stated that such moves are being viewed as a norm by the people, with the media assisting in this regard.
