Geagea: We are against any dialogue table seating Hezbollah, SSNP and FPM officials

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea held a press conference said on Friday whereby he stated several reasons on why his party  in conjunction with the March14 bloc insists on boycotting national dialogue sessions. Geagea marked dates and positions since the commencement of the national talks in 2006 saying that the hours spent on the national talks have yielded little to no results.

"We are against any dialogue table that seats Hezbollah, Syrian Socialist Nationalist Party and Free Patriotic Movement officials," recalling that in 2010 the dialogue was halted by the 'opposing team' due to the issue of false witnesses.

"Those calling for dialogue now hindered the national talks in 2010," he said.

He noted that Change and Reform bloc MP Michel Aoun had said in 2003 that he would not convene with those who hold illegal arms. "It seems that Aoun has  changed his positions for electoral gains," Geagea cynically said.

The LF chief said that the dialogue has not been able to stop one assassination since the wave of  political murders broke out, pointing that "it is understandable that dialogue not yield results but it should at least come up with answers regarding assassinations."

Geagea said that during previous dialogue sessions, all parties presented their draft on a defense strategy except Hezbollah.

"The national talks were set up to discuss the issue of Hezbollah's extra-state arms and a defense strategy...but the latter refuses to even bring it up on the table for discussions, accusing anyone who addresses the issue with espionage, or with serving Israeli-American interests".

The LF chief described the dialogue table as a cover up to all security incidents occurring in the country, noting that "the call of the president is dear to us, hence why we are being so direct with our statements today."
