REPORT: Minister Fneish’s brother, wanted on drug counterfeit charges, turns himself in

Minister Mohammad Fneish’s brother, Abdul Latif Fneish, wanted on charges related to counterfeit medications, turned himself in to authorities and the Baabda Judicial Palace on Friday after Mount Lebanon First Investigating Judge Jean Fernaini issued an arrest warrant the same day.

The brother of the Lebanese Minister had been on the run after flooding the Lebanese market with huge quantities of counterfeit medicine, most of which was never recovered. Upon discovery in 2010, the health ministry recalled the bad medicine from pharmacies, but only a few hundred packets were collected.

When the cargo arrived in Lebanon around November 2012, the merchant received a stamp of approval from the Minister of Health Ali Hassan Khalil despite having confessed to inadequate transport methods. The minister, on the other hand, claims that the signature and stamp are forgeries.
