Military Tribunal demands death penalty for former Minister Samaha, 2 accomplices

The Military Tribunal issued an indictment on Wednesday demanding capital punishment for former Minister Michel Samaha and two accomplices involved in terror plots across Lebanon. The Investigation Judge Riad Abou Ghaida demanded the death penalty as punishment for Samaha, Syrian National Security Bureau head Ali Mamlouk, Brig. Gen Adnan.

The indictment stipulated that the investigations proved that Samaha, Mamlouk and Adnan met in Damascus, set up a plan to carry out explosions in Lebanon and transported explosive devices from Syria to Lebanon. It added that Samaha was assigned to kill Syrian opposition members and arm dealers who smuggled and sold weapons from the region of Akkar.

According the indictment, Samaha appointed Miled Kfoury to carry out these operations and added to the list explosions and assassinations against politicians and religious leaders.

Former Minister Michel Samaha, was arrested on Thursday 9th of August by the Internal Security Forces’ Information Branch on suspicion of involvement in a plot to carry out terrorist attacks in Lebanon in collaboration with Syria.

He was charged by the government’s deputy commissioner at the Military Tribunal on Aug. 11,  alongside Syrian National Security Bureau head Ali Mamlouk and a Syrian army officer identified as Brig. Gen. Adnan with plotting to assassinate political and religious figures in Lebanon and carrying out terrorist attacks.

The three men were accused of planning to incite sectarian clashes through terrorist attacks in North Lebanon during the Eid using explosives that Samaha allegedly transported to Lebanon and stored after taking possession of them from Mamlouk and Adnan.
