March 14 independent MPs: Orthodox Gathering Law leads to country's division

Independent Christian MPs announced Thursday that their rejection of the Orthodox Gathering Law embodies their commitment to a united Lebanon and their refusal to expose Christians to the danger of isolation. “This proposal would dangerously lead to the division of Lebanon,” they said.

Following their meeting in MP Boutros Harb’s residence, participants called for an electoral law that guarantees just representation. “We proposed several draft electoral laws,” they said, adding “March 8 forces, under the leadership of Hezbollah and with their Christian members refused all of our proposals since they are contradictory to their interests and the interests of their parties.

The MPs voiced their determination to counter the Orthodox Gathering Law and prevent its ratification at Parliament.
