Judge Madi receives documents related to al-Madina Bank scandal

General Prosecutor Judge Hatem Madi met on Tuesday the lawyers of Rana Koleilat, who handed him documents related to the al-Madina Bank scandal.

Bank al Madina collapsed in early 2003, after it had been looted of about $1.65 billion with Koleilat playing a central role in this regard.

During 12 years at the private bank, Koleilat was upgraded from clerk to executive in an era in which Syria dominated Lebanon and whereby the bank was key to the shadowy financial dealings of Lebanese and Syrian politicians.

Other suspects in the case include Adnan Abu Ayash and his brother Ibrahim.

Reports have said that the amount missing from the two banks could total as much as euro 1.0 billion.
