REPORT: Sleiman from Bkerke says failing to hold elections is a “mortal sin”

President Michel Sleiman stressed on Sunday that the next cabinet’s mission is to hold the parliamentary elections, to preserve Lebanon’s security and to put an end to the negative repercussions of the Syrian crisis.

Following his meeting with Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Beshara Boutros Rai in Bkerke held prior to his participation in the Easter Mass, Sleiman noted that if holding the elections according the 60s electoral law is a “big mistake”, failing to hold the elections is a “mortal sin”.

On the other hand, the president said that he will not sign the decree pertaining to the extension of the Parliament’s mandate, pointing out that a new electoral law will be reached and he will call on politicians to hold dialogue sessions.
