Minister Abou Faour: The 1960’s law is still the most successful

Caretaker Minister of Social Affairs Wael Abou Faour said that the Head of the National Struggle Front (NSF) “MP Walid Jumblatt is a man of understanding and stability” pointing out that the Cabinet resigned seemingly since some factions wanted to exercise despotism in order to target the Internal Security Forces’ institution.

“The Internal Security Forces’ institution has an important role in Lebanon and has great responsibilities in terms of maintaining security and stability,” Minister Abou Faour said.

On the 37th occasion for the assassination of Kamal Jumblatt, Minister Abou Faour said that the ISF is being targeted so as to be removed from the security equation adding that “there was some type of consensus between political forces to extend the mandate of security apparatuses chiefs”.

Abou Faour said that Lebanese factions should return to national dialogue and form a national unity cabinet adding that political parties should take benefit of the constitutional institutions and the parliamentary consultations.

Abou Faour stressed that the Baabda declaration should be the basis of the new cabinet and considered that it is impossible to sit for national dialogue while some are participating in the Syrian crisis.

As for the elections, Abou Faour said that the NSF does not consider the 1960’s electoral law as the "best" for the upcoming elections, but constitutionally, it is still the most successful law.

“The upcoming parliamentary elections should be held on their constitutional due time,” Abou Faour concluded.
