Geagea says Hezbollah liberated Lebanon at the expense of Lebanese state

Lebanese Forces Leader Samir Geagea expressed on Wednesday his party’s support to the extension of the parliament’s mandate, saying that “the worst thing is holding the elections on the basis of the 1960 electoral law”.

During a press conference held in Maarab, Geagea said that there is great divergence between Hezbollah’s vision of the Lebanese state and the vision of the Lebanese people, and mentioned that Hezbollah violated the national charter and the concept of coexistence.

In reference to the speech delivered by the Secretary General of Hezbollah Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, Geagea said that “Nasrallah considers his means in resisting Israel as appropriate; however, violence will only push Lebanon towards the abyss and more defeats and losses”.

Geagea added that Hezbollah did not miss any chance to weaken the authority of the Lebanese state and has been seeking a state.

Geagea mentioned that Hezbollah liberated Lebanon from the Israeli occupation; however, the former is preventing the army from fulfilling its duties in order to achieve short term victories.

“Lebanese Armed Forces will perform better against Israel in case any assault erupts, since they garner the support of the entire Lebanese populace,” Geagea added.

Geagea stressed that the military institution was able to defend and protect Lebanon before the existence of Hezbollah.

In regards to Hezbollah’s participation in the Syrian crisis, Geagea said that Hezbollah’s Secretary General is attempting to distort truths and portray the Syrian regime as liberal.

Geagea questioned the role of Syria in the Arab-Israeli conflict and said that “everyone knows that an implicit peace deal has been ratified between Syria and Israel since 1973”.

Geagea mentioned that Hezbollah’s intervention in Syria will leave various repercussions on the Lebanese field and added that Hezbollah considers its interests more important than the interests of the entire Lebanese nation.

Geagea urged the Free Patriotic Movement to end its alliance with Hezbollah since the country’s fate is more important than garnering a few parliamentary seats.

As for the formation of the cabinet, Geagea called for the formation of a cabinet capable of defending the country and achieving the goals of the Lebanese people, away from the equation of the “army-people-resistance”.
