Civil society activists voice their rejection to the extension of Parliament's mandate

       
Civil society activists staged on Friday another sit-in in Downtown Beirut to protest the extension of the parliament's mandate.         

In this context, the demonstrators set up tents overnight before al-Azarieh building in Downtown Beirut after the security forces prevented them from entering al-Nejmeh Square.         

A civil society activist told LBCI that the protesters are holding a peaceful demonstration, noting that they will not try to enter the parliament's building today.          

On the 20th of June, civil society activists decided to go on with their movement to protest the extension of the Parliament's mandate.The protesters set up tents in Riad al-Solh Square, while the security forces stressed that they will not allow any roads to be cut off.        

Earlier in the day, the activists had staged a demonstration at Riad al-Solh Square amid a heavy deployment of security forces.           

This as President Michel Sleiman said via twitter that he supports the demands of the protesters on the condition that the movement remains peaceful and democratic, stressing that the security forces must act wisely with the demonstrators and not use excessive force.
