HIC says Grand Mufti Qabbani to stay in office

The Higher Islamic Council (HIC) announced on Wednesday that "the 'hateful campaigns' targeting the Grand Mufti Sheikh Mohammad Rashid Qabbani are common, especially when the Mufti's stances undermine the interests of some political parties when dissociating the 'independent' religious institution from political outbidding".

Following an extraordinary session held at Dar el-Fatwa under the chairmanship of Grand Mufti Qabbani, the HIC denounced all attempts to drag the premiership into "sectarian goals" that compromise Dar el-Fatwa and the Islamic endowments.

The HIC also highlighted that all attempts to undermine the Grand Mufti Qabbani's person are an unprecedented action in the history of Muslims, stressing that Qabbani will stay in office as per the articles stipulated by the legislative decree.
