REPORT: Halba residents stage sit-in to show support to Roula Yaacoub’s case

Civil society activists staged a sit-in on Sunday in Halba Square to express their support to the case of Roula Yaacoub who was killed after being severely beaten by her husband.

The relatives of Roula said that medical reports are being forged, noting that they have been subject to political pressure.

For her part, the lawyer Bouchra Khoury stressed that the investigations are ongoing, calling on the concerned authorities to carry out an autopsy on Roula’s body, and on the deputies to pass the law to protect women against domestic violence during the upcoming parliamentary session.

This as French physicians stressed, after receiving medical reports sent by Roula’s lawyers in Lebanon, that the death resulted from severe beating and violent treatment.
