Rai calls for preserving sovereignty of Lebanon

The Catholic bishops and archbishops opened the 45th meeting at Bkerke to discuss the role of the youth and their position in the life and message of the church.     

Maronite Patriarch Mar Beshara Rai, who presided over the meeting which was attended by a number of prominent Christian religious figures, underscored the need to preserve Lebanon's sovereignty and called on politicians and political parties to train the new generation to be loyal to Lebanon.     

He added that it is imperative that Lebanese practice democracy in a proper manner and to encourage the youth to enroll in the Lebanese army, security forces and public administrations.     

Rai also highlighted the need to accept political and religious pluralism and respect the opinions, culture and religion of all Lebanese.    

Repeating his slogan "partnership and love", Rai stressed that the church is extending its hand to the state in order to work together to provide a better future for the youth and pay more attention to their energy.    

The patriarch said it is of the utmost importance to secure jobs for the Lebanese youth and capitalize on their huge resources and knowledge.    

Rai also commented on the events taking place in some of the Arab countries.      

He also said that this meeting will discuss other religious matters that concern all Christian sects in Lebanon.
