UCC calls for sit-ins for September 4th

The Union Coordinating Committee considered in a statement releaed Friday that Lebanon and the entire Arab region is passing through a critical situation, and called on Lebanese citizens to unite their efforts in order to prevent sectarian strife in the country.          

On another note the committee called for speeding up the formation of a cabinet capable of safeguarding civil peace and national unity, and asked teachers and civil servants to convene in general assemblies on the 2nd and 3rd of September at schools, public institutions, and ministries.                  

The UCC also called for holding sit-ins on the 4th of September in the following centers:        

Beirut: Outside the Ministry of Education

North Lebanon: Outside Tripoli’s Serail

South Lebanon: Outdoors Sidon’s Serail

Bekaa: Outdoors Zahle’s Serail

Mount Lebanon: Outdoors Baabda’s Serail


Cabinet referred the wage scale to Parliament following weeks of nationwide protests on Thursday [March 21st].           

The Union Coordinating Committee had launched its open ended strike on February 19th 2013 after making repeated called on Prime Minister Mikati to validate the new salary scale and consequently refer it to Parliament for ratification.
