Zahle MPs urge Sleiman and Mikati to order dismantlement of Hezbollah telecommunications network in the city

 
Zahle MPs held on Monday a press conference to tackle the latest incidents in the Bekaa city of Zahle.

During the press conference, the MPs stressed that Zahle is a "city of peace," raising doubts about the use of a Hezbollah telecommunications network in the city.

The MPs urged President Michel Sleiman and caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati to order Hezbollah to dismantle its network in the city.

Media outlets reported on Monday that tensions erupted on Sunday in the Bekaa city of Zahle after members of Hezbollah attempted to lay cables for a telecommunications network in the area.

Contacts held with concerned authorities failed to hinder such attempts which pushed Zahle MPs to act accordingly.

For his part, member of the Kataeb party parliamentary bloc, MP Elie Marouni stressed on Monday that security forces arrested six Hezbollah members on Sunday while they were working on extending a communication network in Zahle.

He noted that the residents informed him that a vehicle whose windows were tinted and which did not hold a registration plate was conducting excavation works near Saint Charbel Church in Zahle, adding that residents took to the streets after contacting security forces who rushed to scene and detained the Hezbollah members.
