REPORT: Official delegation, 16 Lebanese nationals arrive to Lebanon from Indonesia

   
An Emirates Airlines’ plane carrying the Lebanese official delegation headed by Minister Ahmad Karami arrived Tuesday evening to Beirut International Airport coming from Indonesia. The plane was also carrying the Lebanese nationals who refused to board the Indonesian boat that drowned two weeks ago off the Indonesian coast, as well as Lebanese nationals whose residency permits have expired.      

The Lebanese nationals were identified as Ali Hassan, Mohammad Abdel Latif, Faraj Mheish, Abdel Rahman Issa, Khodor Darwish, Nasreddine Youssef, Mohammad Darwish, Abdallah Jadid, Aya Hassan, Doua’ Hassan, Aida Awad, Moseeb al-Kik, Khaled Taleb, Jihane Eyremik and Aisha Taleb.      

In this context, Minister Ahmad Karami hoped that the tension prevailing over the country will ease so that the Lebanese citizens would not seek to immigrate, noting that the delegation’s return was delayed due to the measures needed to be taken in the cases of ten Lebanese nationals who were legally wanted by the Indonesian authorities.      

Karami pointed out that the corpses of the boat incident’s victims will not arrive to Lebanon before October 21st for technical reasons.      

For his part, MP Ali Bazzi said that Lebanon’s deprived regions must be given the necessary attention, in order to prevent “such tragic death, whether the immigration means were legal or illegal.”      

On Friday September 26, dozens of Lebanese nationals hailing from the towns of Akkar were reported dead after a boat carrying them to Australia sank off the coast of Indonesia.    

Preliminary information showed that an Iraqi national known as Abou Salah was in charge of transferring the persons to Indonesia before reaching Australia.    

The 18 survivors of the incident had arrived on Sunday October 6th to Lebanon.
