Geagea: Lebanon incapable of bearing the burden of Syrian refugees

Lebanese Forces Chief Samir Geagea called Wednesday on President Michel Sleiman and Prime Minister-Designate Tammam Sallam to speed up the formation of the cabinet.

On another note, Geagea said that “serious presidential elections haven’t been held since the Taif Agreement,” emphasizing that presidents were chosen on the basis of political compromises.

In this regard, Geagea called for holding presidential elections during which a certain political group elects a president to follow a specific presidential agenda.

Separately, Geagea said that the situation in Syria is worsening, adding that the crisis may not end any time soon since world powers are turning a blind eye.

As for the rising influx of refugees into Lebanon, Geagea said that safe zones, that are internationally protected, should be established inside the Syrian borders since Lebanon may no longer bear the burden of refugees.
