Nationwide campaign to increase green areas in Lebanon

Minister of Environment Nazem Khoury, representing the president, launched a nationwide reforestation campaign to increase green areas in Lebanon in 2012. He assured that his Ministry will suggest 11 decrees to the cabinet, including an environmental control decree and a decree to strengthen environmental prosecution to put an end to destructive practices impacting Lebanon’s forests.

Several kinds of seeds were carried Sunday morning by a LAF helicopter. The seeds were sprinkled from the air to reforest the region of Amshit.

This campaign is organized by the “Lebanon Green Again” organization. It aims to increase the number of trees and plants that characterize each of the Lebanese regions.

Each year, efforts are doubled to preserve forests in Lebanon as neglect and the lack of responsible caretakers led to the decline of green areas. Today, the state can no longer avoid playing its role; hand in hand with civil society it must expand green areas and reforest Lebanon.

Reforestation by dropping seeds from the air is a method that was adopted a few years ago to plant seeds in forests that are hard to reach.
