DNA matching process of Indonesian boat victims to commence Monday

Caretaker Foreign Affairs Minister Adnan Mansour was informed on Friday from the Chargé d'affaires at the Lebanese embassy in Jakarta Joanna Azzi that authorities have finished examining 44 bodies of the Indonesian asylum boat incident.

Azzi added to minister Mansour that the DNA matching process will commence as soon as Professor Fouad Ayoub reaches Jakarta Monday.

Azzi also stressed that the Lebanese Embassy in Jakarta is exerting its utmost efforts to accelerate the process of identifying the bodies in order to transport them to Lebanon before the end of October.

On Friday September 26, dozens of Lebanese nationals hailing from the towns of Akkar were reported dead after a boat carrying them to Australia sank off the coast of Indonesia.

Preliminary information showed that an Iraqi national known as Abou Salah was in charge of transferring the persons to Indonesia before reaching Australia.
