Berri: No power can impose on us the burial of chemical weapons in Lebanese soil

Speaker Nabih Berri stressed Thursday that the “international agenda has changed,” noting that his goal is to bridge the gap formed by institutional void, delay in cabinet formation and attempts to drag the country into chaos.

In a speech he delivered during the closing ceremony of Imam Sadr Foundations' Golden Jubilee, Berri pointed out that the Lebanese people will not allow depriving Tripoli from its national identity, calling on all the factions to hold dialogue in order to draw a roadmap to end the current crisis.

Speaker Berri stressed the need to protect Lebanon’s maritime wealth without making compromises, calling for imposing the implementation of the United Nations Security Council resolution 1701.

On another note, Berri called for paving the way for a political solution in Syria, adding that bloodshed and destruction must end throughout the country.

“There is no power that can impose on us the burial of the Syrian chemical weapons in Lebanese soil,” Berri said.
