Former PM Hariri calls for transforming Tripoli into “arms-free” city

Former Prime Minister Saad Hariri denounced on Tuesday the latest round of clashes between Tripoli's Bab al-Tabbaneh and Jabal Mohsen, noting that Lebanon's northern city will not be used as a "pawn" in regional disputes.

"Tripoli belongs to all its residents regardless of their sects and political affiliations," he said in a statement.

Hariri called for transforming Tripoli into an “arms-free” city, and said: "Tripoli will not become, under any circumstances, a den of the Syrian regime and its allies in Lebanon".

He also called on Syrian figures and leaders to work on releasing the abducted nuns and make sure they are safe, stressing the need to raise the voice against incidents taking place in Syria's Maaloula.
