President Sleiman says assassination of Hezbollah's Laqis part of Israeli plot
President Michel Sleiman said on Wednesday that the assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Hawlo Al-Laqis was part of an Israeli plot which aims to fuel sectarian tension and undermine Lebanon's security and civil peace.

Sleiman called on the Lebanese people to be vigilant of attempts to sow sedition, stressing the need to dissociate Lebanon from surrounding conflicts in a bid to maintain security and stability.
He also requested from acting State Prosecutor Judge Samir Hammoud to exert tireless efforts to uncover the assailants and bring them to justice.

On another note, President Sleiman condemned the abduction of the 12 Orthodox nuns in Syria's Maaloula, and said: "Those behind the kidnapping aim to undermine coexistence in the Middle East region, mainly in Syria and Lebanon".

He urged the need to release the nuns the soonest possible as well as other persons, especially the two Bishops who were abducted on April 22 in Syria.

Bishops Boulos Yazigi of the Greek Orthodox Church and John Ibrahim of the Assyrian Orthodox Church were kidnapped while they were traveling outside the northern city of Aleppo.
