Bassil: Case of Maaloula nuns abduction must be discussed with concerned parties

Caretaker Prime Minister Gebran Bassil explained Sunday that the Syrian town of Maaloula represents a true, global, humanitarian and Christian heritage, stressing that the events taking place there are affecting the Christians in Lebanon.

In a press conference held at his residence in Batroun, Bassil called for taking immediate action in order to put an end to the attacks carried out against the Christians in the Middle East, noting that movements staged to raise the case of the kidnapping of the two Syrian bishops are still weak.

In this context, the caretaker minister stressed the need to meet with all the concerned authorities and to form a delegation tasked with visiting countries backing "terrorist groups in Syria in order to tackle the abducted nuns’ dossier."

On another note, Bassil said that Lebanon must have a strong Christian president, pointing out that “reaching an agreement over a weak president is a huge crime.”
