Connelly from Bkerke: Violence in Syria fruit of regime’s cruelty

Maronite Patriarch Beshara Rai met with U.S. ambassador to Lebanon Mora Connelly at Bkerke where they discussed the latest developments in Lebanon and the region.

A statement released by the U.S. Embassy read that the meeting tackled the Patriarch’s view of the best way to protect the rights of Christians and minorities in the Middle East.

According to the statement, Connelly reiterated her country’s stance that violence in Syria is not the result of a sectarian strife, but the result of the regime’s cruelty.

Connelly added that Washington believes that the universal Human Rights must be protected by all.

Connelly urged the Patriarch to support international and regional efforts exerted to deter the Syrian regime’s cruelty against its own people.
