Caretaker Min. Bassil postpones tenders for offshore oil and gas exploration

Caretaker Minister of Energy Gebran Bassil held on Wednesday a press conference in which he postponed for the third time tenders for licensing offshore oil and gas exploration to April 10.

Bassil noted that the postponement came after the resigned government did not approve two decrees, thanking "all companies that wanted to invest in Lebanon at these difficult situations."

He also said that the postponement will be the final one and for only three months.

Previously, the tender has been postponed for two times after the caretaker government failed to approve the decrees  to demarcate 10 maritime oil exploration blocks.

Bassil worked to persuade caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati to hold a cabinet session to approve the decrees, however Mikati argued that the caretaker cabinet can not approve non-essential decrees.
