MP Kanaan to LBCI: Cabinet formation should not be at the expense of presidential elections

Change and Reform Bloc MP Ibrahim Kanaan said on Sunday serious negotiations pertaining to the formation of the cabinet have kicked off, stressing that Lebanese factions should not wait for foreign initiatives to form a new government.

Kannan told LBCI’s Nharkom Said “the only authorized person to hold direct talks with Lebanese factions is Prime Minister-Designate Tammam Salam; however, the latter is giving political parties the chance to discuss the said dossier by themselves.”

Kanaan added that a cabinet will not be formed if Lebanese officials did not discuss its formation with MP Michel Aoun, stressing that the bloc will be taking into consideration the stance of former Prime Minister Saad Hariri.

Kanaan also noted that the Change and Reform Bloc is seeking a national unity cabinet that respects commitments, stressing that the formation of a cabinet should not be at the expense of the upcoming presidential elections.

In this regard, MP Kanaan rejected the formation of a cabinet with an only aim of filling the current void, emphasizing that negotiations and political understandings at this stage should be clear and straight forward.
