Mufti Qabbani says son's alleged civil marriage is part of an orchestrated slander campaign

The media office of Grand Mufti Mohammad Rachid Qabbani issued on Tuesday a statement in which it asserted that Mufti Qabbani had previously issued a Fatwa banning civil marriage since its stipulations contradict with the stipulations of Islam and the Quran.

The media office added that the Mufti’s son Sheikh Raghed Qabbani got married in a Mosque in Brazil and did not have a civil marriage as some media outlets reports previously stated.

The statement considered all media purportedly stating the civil marriage of his son, Sheikh Ragheb, as defamatory in nature to the person of the Mufti amid “the systematic media and political campaign launched against him.”

The media office of the Mufti concluded by urging all media outlets to check the marriage contract of his son at the concerned religious courts of Beirut.

The son of the Mufti of the Republic, Sheikh Ragheb Qabbani declared on his Facebook account that he got married on the 17th of January.

This personal occasion turned into a public one when social media activists posted additional information alluding that the wedding ceremony of the Mufti's son was indeed a civil one.
