LBCI’s CEO Sheikh Pierre El-Daher: Political pressure targets all the media
The CEO of the Lebanese Broadcasting Corporation International (LBCI) Sheikh Pierre El-Daher stressed on Friday that the initiative taken by LBCI’s Nharkom Said TV show comes as a result of pressure exerted by the political class on the media.

An interview by LBCI’s Nharkom Said TV show wrapped up on Friday a few minutes after it started to protest political pressure on the media.

“Given this fact, we noticed that a huge number of politicians and religious leaders, who refuse the way the media deals with them, resort to the judiciary,” Sheikh Daher said.

“Some judges still rely on outdated legal texts which became unacceptable and do not fit in with the current developments,” he added.

Sheikh Daher also told An-Nahar newspaper that the political class is undoubtedly the first to assume its responsibility in this regard, criticizing the judiciary for pursuing blogger Imad Bazzi who commented on the moustache of former minister Panos Manojian.

“We are not against the judiciary but it is required to reconsider all texts and articles related to the media and journalism,” he said.

Daher also confirmed that the attack does not only target LBCI, but all the media as well.
