Cabinet convenes, ratifies recommendations of Supreme Council of Defense

A cabinet's session which is underway and presided by President Michel Sleiman at the Baabda palace ratified the recommendations of Supreme Council of Defense concerning the security.

This comes as President Sleiman said at the beginning of the session that the situation in the northern city of Tripoli has become "intolerable".

On another note, Sleiman noted that the Arab Summit reiterated the support for the Lebanese state through supporting the Lebanese army, the Baabda Declaration, the Special Tribunal for Lebanon and the resistance of occupation.

He also tackled the violence against children and women, as well as the corruption in Lebanon, adding that the Lebanese state will assume its responsibilities in this regard.

For his part, Minister of Justice Ashraf Rifi confirmed that on top of the items that would be discussed is transferring the information branch to a department, an issue which was previously endorsed in a former cabinet.

Meanwhile, Minister of Public health Wael Abou Faour considered that "the security plan is the most important item", adding that  "as for the deputies of the governor of the Central Bank of Lebanon, there is an agreement to renew their tenure except if something else emerges."

In turn, Industry Minister, Houssein El-Hajj Hassan explained that "if the claimed "death squares" issue was raised I would have a word concerning this issue."

Prior to the session, Sleiman held a meeting with Prime Minister Tammam Salam.
