Patriarch Rai urges Berri to call for parliamentary session to vote for new president
Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Beshara Boutros Rai urged Sunday Speaker Nabih Berri to call for an electoral parliamentary session to vote for a new president, once the legislative sessions end.

In his holy sermon during Sunday’s mass at Bkerke, Rai stressed that Lebanon needs “a strong president, with high ethical standards and a clean history, capable of strengthening the state and its institutions, defending the government and the constitution and putting an end to corruption in the state’s administrations.”

In this context, Rai warned against any attempt to manipulate the presidential elections, which constitutes the basis of all institutions, stressing that ensuring quorum for the election of the president is an honorable national and ethical commitment.

“Speaking of or seeking political void is an insult to the people and deputies’ dignity and a sign of failure,” he said.
