Egyptian expats cast their ballots in Lebanon

The Media Attaché at the Egyptian embassy in Beirut, Sobhi Abdul Basir, said over 1,100 Egyptian expatriates arrived on Sunday to the embassy to cast their ballots for Egypt’s upcoming presidential elections.

Basir said in a statement that 1,000 among them have voted, noting that the rest were unable to do so due to problems related to their passports and identity cards.

"The total number of Egyptian voters in Lebanon reached 3,593," Basir added.

The four-day period for overseas voting ends on Sunday and the presidential vote is set to open in Egypt on May 26-27.

Egypt’s former army chief Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi and leftist leader Hamdeen Sabahi are running to replace ousted President Mohammad Morsi.
