Michel Mouawad: No one has the right to give the Patriarch lessons in patriotism
Head of the Independence Movement Michel Mouawad stressed Thursday that the Christians should not stand idly by while a campaign is being launched against the Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Beshara Boutros Rai.

In a press conference, Mouawad stressed that “no one has the right to give the Patriarch of the Maronites lessons in patriotism.”

In this regard, Mouawad urged the Maronite leaders to take a stance concerning the campaign against Bkerke, calling on Justice Minister Ashraf Rifi to refer the writer of the article on Patriarch Rai to the public prosecution on charges of causing sectarian strife.

On another note, Mouawad noted that those who pretend to have the interests of the people as their priorities must attend the parliamentary sessions and participate in the elections of a new president.

“Failure to elect a president as soon as possible would weaken the status of the first Christian position,” he added.
