Minister Mashnouq calls for halting construction works at the Janna dam project
Environment Minister Mohammad Mashnouq asked on Monday for halting construction works at Janna dam project, calling for a new study over the project's environmental impact.

In this regard, Mashnouq briefed the environmental associations on his request from Energy and Water Minister Arthur Nazarian to stop construction works, stressing that the environmental impact assessment study goes back to the year 2008 and the initial project of the dam may be modified.

Last month, the Lebanese Environment Movement, which is comprised of nearly 60 ecological associations, organized a gathering calling on the concerned authorities to stop the construction of the Janna dam in Adonis River Valley.

Paul Abi Rached, the head of the movement, said "the dam poses a threat to the Nahr Ibrahim River since the suggested location for its establishment is inappropriate."
