PM Salam says Lebanon will not turn into ground for sectarian meddling
Prime Minister Tammam Salam condemned on Tuesday the bombing that targeted the army's checkpoint in southern Beirut’s Tayouneh region.

Salam stressed that Lebanon will not turn into "an open ground for sectarian meddling."

He also called on the Lebanese people to exercise diligence and “thwart attempts to shake the country's security by maintaining unity.”

“The Lebanese people should rise up and face the challenges by fortifying Lebanon with political measures and activating the state's institutions,” he added.

He requested that the Lebanese security apparatuses intensify their security measures while remaining firm in pursuing terrorists.

One person was killed and at least 20 wounded when a suicide bomber blew himself up at an army checkpoint at the Tayouneh roundabout on Monday just before midnight.

The car bombing came three days after a suicide attack in the east of the country which left one person dead and 30 injured. The attacks were the first in Lebanon since March.
