The UN and Arab League envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura expressed Thursday the United Nations’ concern over the stability of Lebanon, which is paying the price of the conflict in Syria.
“We are following up on the events taking place on the border regions and we know that Lebanon will overcome these challenges,” de Mistura said, pointing out that Lebanon’s political stability is very important for the region and the world.
In a press conference he held after holding a meeting with Prime Minister Tammam Salam, the UN envoy stated that his mission consists of dealing with changes that have occurred in the region in a diplomatic manner.
De Mistura added that he will be visiting Iran, Turkey and other countries in the region, as well as Russia.
