MP Alain Aoun to LBCI: Change and Reform bloc to discuss steps to be taken following the extension of parliament's term

Change and Reform bloc is set to hold on Wednesday a meeting under the chairmanship of MP Michel Aoun to discuss the steps to be taken after the extension of the parliamentary session.

Prior to the meeting, MP Alain Aoun told LBCI that the extension of the parliament's term aims to defer the elections for an unlimited amount of time.

For his part, MP Hekmat Dib condemned the oppression carried out by the security apparatuses against Civil Movement for Accountability activists.

Earlier, dozens of protesters waving Lebanese flags and holding signs describing Lebanese lawmakers as "thieves" gathered near Martyrs Square in downtown Beirut to denounce the proposed extension of the parliament's mandate.

The protest was the latest of demonstrations organized by activist group, the Civil Movement for Accountability against the extension.

Security apparatuses and the protestors scuffled after they tried to prevent one lawmaker from reaching parliament.

The protestors also erected a tent near an-Nahar newspaper building and blocked the roads leading to the parliament.
