Leader of the Lebanese Forces Samir Geagea declared Wednesday that the Change and Reform bloc have been hindering the parliamentary and presidential elections in a bid to paralyze the constitutional institutions.
In a speech he delivered from Maarab, Geagea described MP Michel Aoun as “the hero of failed adventures and lost wars,” urging him to bear the responsibility of his shortcomings.
In this regard, he added that Aoun has repeatedly said that the current situation overshadowing the country prevent the parliamentary elections from being held.
However, the LF chief stated that the Lebanese Forces would definitely choose to hold the elections over the extension of the parliament’s mandate, but when it comes to choosing between the extension and the constitutional vacuum, the party will prefer extending the term of the parliament.
In this context, he pointed out that half of the deputies who voted for the extension are allies of the Change and Reform bloc, noting that the first extension of the parliament mandate ratified in May 2013 took place in the presence of President Michel Sleiman.
“The only solution to hold the parliamentary elections is available and requires the election of a new president, a task which we are ready to carry out anytime,” he stated.
On another note, Geagea denied reports stating that the Lebanese Forces party violated the consensus reached over the Orthodox Gathering electoral draft law.
