Member of the Change and Reform bloc MP Alain Aoun stressed that Lebanon is witnessing a democratic recession, while other Arab countries advance in the process of electing the people’s representatives.
In a statement to LBCI’s Nharkom Said, Aoun said that the resignation of the Change and Reform bloc MPs will lead to sub-elections to fill the vacant seats, noting that “if there were a will to hold the parliamentary elections, they would have been held instead of extending the term of the Parliament.”
On Wednesday, Lebanese lawmakers held a parliamentary session under the chairmanship of Speaker Nabih Berri and extended the term of the parliament until 2017 with 95 votes, and amid the boycott of the Free Patriotic Movement and Kataeb party MPs.
