Health Minister Wael Abou Faour stressed Sunday that the campaign on food safety will continue, despite the obstacles and difficulties, noting that this campaign will reach all the Lebanese regions without exceptions, until the main objectives are achieved, including protecting the citizens’ health and guaranteeing safe and healthy food.
In a statement he issued, the minister thanked the security apparatuses and the Director General of the Internal Security Forces Major General Ibrahim Basbous for accompanying the ministry’s inspectors, who were attacked by corrupt people.
He added that the Health Ministry will continue its measures in taking food samples and inspecting concerned institutions and markets, in a bid to put an end to the corruption in this field and take legal action against the violators.
Abou Faour pointed out in his statement that the members of the Health Ministry’s team filed a lawsuit against all those who will be proven by the investigations to be involved in the attack in Sabra market in Sidon, stating that he contacted the General Prosecutor Judge Samir Hammoud asking him to take the appropriate measures against the attackers.
Earlier in the day, the inspectors of the Health Ministry left Sabra market in Sidon after taking meat samples, while they were accompanied by security forces, members of the General Security and Information bureau.
This comes after the inspectors were attacked Sunday morning by unknown persons in the market, when they were on an inspection tour to examine the quality of the meat products.
