Change and Reform bloc MPs held on Saturday an extraordinary meeting in Rabieh.
Following the meeting, MP Ibrahim Kanaan said on behalf of the lawmakers that the Constitutional Council judges have a historic role in ending attacks against the Constitution, in reference to the extension of the parliament's mandate.
"Judges must preserve the Constitution...the bloc will hold open ended meetings pending a decision by the council over the extension appeal," he said.
Kanaan noted the bloc had submitted several initiatives to put an end to the political deadlock in a bid bid to give back the Lebanese the right to elect a president.
Last Friday, Lebanon's constitutional council held an open-ended closed session to discuss a report submitted by the council's rapporteur over the Free Patriotic Movement's appeal to the decree extending the Parliament's mandate.
The session ended without reaching a decision on the appeal and no date was set for the upcoming session.
Civil society organizations staged sit-ins outside the council, hoisting Lebanese flags and banners condemning the said extension.
Rights groups worry that lawmakers are eroding the right to vote in a country with a tradition of free elections.
Friday's session was the second one held by the council which had also convened on Thursday the 13th of November.
On November 13, the Free Patriotic Movement challenged the decree extending the Parliament' term before the Constitutional Council.
Change and Reform bloc secretary and FPM member, MP Ibrahim Kanaan, presented the challenge, urging Lebanese citizens "not to lose faith in state institutions during the darkest times".
On Wednesday the 5th of November, Lawmakers voted overwhelmingly to extend their mandate, skipping scheduled elections for the second consecutive time. The extension session was boycotted by Aoun's MPs and the Kataeb party.
The lawmakers who voted in favor of the draft-law claimed they needed to extend their own term because the security situation in the country is too dire to allow holding elections amid Syria's civil war.
