Relatives of Lebanese hostages declare suspension of escalatory movements

The relatives of the abducted soldiers declared Thursday the suspension of their escalatory movements until further notice, explaining that this decision came following contacts with the concerned parties.

In a statement issued in this regard, the relatives said that they contacted Health Minister Wael Abou Faour, who reassured them that “based on mediation with al-Nsura Front and the Islamic State, both groups lifted their threats to execute the hostages.”

The al Qaeda-linked Nusra Front threatened on Monday action against members of the Lebanese security forces it holds as captives after police stormed a wing of the country's largest prison where Islamist militants are detained.

Four of the soldiers held by the Nusra Front have been killed in detention despite ongoing negotiations with the Lebanese authorities to secure their release.
