Minister of Health Wael Abou Faour called Tuesday on the Prosecutor General to probe increasing complaints regarding medical errors committed in various Lebanese hospitals, after the Order of Physicians failed to take appropriate action. A ministry statement said that Abou Faour’s request came in response to a rising number of complaints addressed to the Ministry of Health over medical errors taking place in hospitals. The statement said that although the complaints had been referred to the Order of Physicians for investigation, the latter had failed to take any punitive or disciplinary actions against physicians who had committed the mistakes, many of which were fatal. “As such Health Minister Wael Abou Faour called on the prosecutor general to open the file of medical errors and follow up on the alleged medical negligence,” the statement added.
