Lebanon witnesses icy weather, heavy rains and snow at low altitudes on Storm Windy’s third day

Storm Windy has been hitting Lebanon for the third day, where it caused a mudslide near Fawar Antelias River, leading the river to flood and block the road. Sources told LBCI that the illegal works ongoing in the mountain near the river caused the mudslide.

This comes as an icy weather prevailed Friday over the region of Bekaa, with scattered showers and snow reaching 15 to 30 cm of thickness, blocking the roads of Dahr al-Baydar and Tarshish, the two main entrances to the Bekaa.

Since its arrival, storm Windy has caused several accidents, including a sliding truck that blocked the international road of Dahr al-Baydar for more than one hour, before being removed by the Internal Security Forces. Similarly, civil defense teams worked on rescuing two families and a number of soldiers who were trapped in the snow on Tarshish – al-Mejdel road.

In Batroun, the snow touched the regions located at 250 meters of altitude, while the roads at 400 meters above sea level became dangerous and the ones at 700 meters were completely blocked.

The snow also covered the regions at 400 meters above sea level across the northern towns.

In Tyre, snow covered the areas at 500 meters above sea level during the night, while hailstones fell across the coastal area, disrupting the work at the port, and leading the private and public schools to close their doors.

As for the Nabatieh and neighboring towns, the regions located at 400 meters of altitude and above were covered by snow, blocking all the main and secondary roads.

In Iqlim al-Tuffah, the snow reached a thickness of 50 cm, blocking all roads in the area.

The snow also covered the region of Marjeyoun, where bulldozers worked on opening the roads to facilitate the traffic, allowing only vehicles equipped with metal chains to pass.

In Akkar, the snow covered the towns located at 500 meters of altitude and above, as the storm began to recede, leaving less losses and damages than previous storms, especially on agriculture crops.

In this regard, the roads of Meshmesh, Fneydeq, al-Qammoua and al-Qobeiyat are completely blocked, as well as the roads of Meshmesh – al-Hermel, Andaqt-Akroum-Beit Jaafar and al-Qobeiyat-Beit Jaafar al-Hermel.

The storm also blocked all the mountainous roads in the district of Donniyeh starting at 600 meters above sea level, while the snowfall reached areas at 400 meters of altitude, blocking several roads in the region.
