The Russian Foreign Ministry issued a statement following the meeting held on Tuesday between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his Lebanese counterpart Gebran Bassil on the sidelines of the 28th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva.
The statement reiterated Lavrov’s confirmation that Moscow’s position is firm concerning supporting Lebanon’s sovereignty, unity and regional safety, without interfering in its internal affairs.
For his part, Bassil delivered a speech before the council, whereby he said that his government regained the initiative in organizing the issue of the displacement of Syrian nationals in a bid to face the challenge.
Bassil said that Lebanon’s success in this regard was possible since the International Community assumed its responsibilities and stood by Lebanon through direct support.
The Lebanese FM added that Lebanon stands in the heart of the global war on terrorism.
