Lebanon’s Health, Interior Ministries to monitor potable water

Health Minister Wael Abou Faour and Interior Minister Nouhad Mashnouq launched on Monday a joint cooperation that aims to periodically monitor potable water in light of contamination reports.

The Lebanese Health Ministry has announced that it will start training municipality workers to periodically monitor potable water by selecting control points and taking drinking water samples for examination.

The Health Ministry will also seek to establish bacteriological laboratories in order to examine drinking water across the Lebanese provinces - a move funded by the European Union, in cooperation with the World Health Organization and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

Lebanon, a tiny and under-resourced country, hosts more than a million Syrian refugees and has the highest per capita concentration of refugees in the world - a problem that has been added to the already dense population in terms of the distribution of resources.
