Case of mysterious child death in Lebanese daycare center referred to General Prosecution

Minister of Health Wael Abou Faour referred on Friday the case pertaining to the mysterious death of a child at a Beirut daycare center to the General Prosecution.

The case of the death of Jana Hussein Deeb at Dima daycare in Beirut's Hay al-Sellom region was referred to the concerned judicial authorities.

Abou Faour ordered the closure of the center.

On Thursday, the owners of the daycare center had prevented Health Ministry inspectors from entering the facility.

Deeb died on March 16 in mysterious circumstances at the daycare. Her family filed a complaint to the Health Ministry.

The minister had launched in October a food safety campaign in the country, seeking to improve health standards.

The campaign has prompted the closure of several restaurants, warehouses, and slaughterhouses.

Abou Faour's campaign has extended to include hospitals and other facilities.
