Lebanese army arrests 3 people for carrying out “financial operations” for terrorist groups
 The Lebanese army announced on Thursday that three people were arrested on suspicion of conducting “major financial operations” for the benefit of Syria-based armed groups.
 
The army identified the arrestees as Lebanese national Mohammed Dahrouj and Syrians Ahmed Najjar and Ayman Ghotmeh who were all arrested by the Intelligence Directorate on Wednesday in Beirut on charges of carrying out financial operations on behalf of militant groups operating in Syria.
 
Dahrouj had been previously apprehended on charges of transferring rocket-propelled grenades, according to the army.
 
An investigation has been launched with the arrestees under the supervision of the concerned authorities.
 
The Syrian conflict has spilled over into Lebanon with a refugee crisis, waves of violence and sectarian tension.
 
Since the eruption of the crisis, the border between both countries has been used as a conduit for weapons and fighters, while also serving as a route for people fleeing the conflict.
