Lebanese farmers, exporters and drivers of refrigerated trucks staged a brief sit-in on Saturday, where they blocked Chroura-Beirut road.
The movement aimed at calling on the government and the Prime Minister to take the necessary measures to rescue the agricultural sector from a series of setbacks witnessed over the past year.
On Thursday, the Lebanese agricultural associations and unions held a meeting whereby they decided to call for a demonstration to be staged to protest against the government's failure to meet their demands.
The protest will denounce the state’s failure in dealing with issues that include the smuggling of Syrian potatoes into Lebanon and the absence of support for land and air shipping to export local agricultural products.
